Pondok Melati Congregation was actually one of the "Anthing's Congregations" which had been there since 1870s. However, later development of this congregation and how the congregation ceased to exist in the early twentieth century, was not clearly known. Further historical studies should be conducted to have a proper understanding of the rise and fall of this particular congregation.
Pondok Melati Congregation or "GKP Pondok Melati" as you know today, is the result of the pioneering efforts initiated by Mr. Ruben Saian in the late 1980s who managed to organise a regular sunday service in his own house which at that time had been used as a free medical centre for christians and general public in his neighbourhood.
Initially, a sunday service was held once every two weeks and attended by 15 to 20 church-goers. Since Mr. Ruben Saian was a member of GKP Cawang, the early congregation was included into and under the supervision of GKP Cawang. However, considering its nearby location with GKP Kampung Sawah and more and more church-goers of GKP Kampung Sawah attended its services, GKP Kampung Sawah took over this chapter under its ministry on 17 October 1993. Until that year, Pondok Melati Congregation has 46 head of family members with 168 individual members.
Being a chapter for years, Pondok Melati Congregation managed to provide a standardized ministry on regular basis. Sunday Service was held every sunday and church committees were established: Women Committee, Youth Committee and Sunday School Committee. All ministries' programmes and works were under the supervision of GKP Kampung Sawah administration.
After about a year or so holding its status as a "would-be congregation", on 22nd November 2005, Pondok Melati Congregation officially becomes an independent church. Rev. Lisanti Lasso, Sth. becomes the first priest for GKP Pondok Melati.
The immediate challenges of this "newly-born" Pondok Melati are among others putting its right spiritual and ministrial foundation as an independent church and realising the physical development of a proper place of worship for Our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, among His people in Pondok Melati.
All Glory To Him.
